For those who love photography or earn their income from it, there is a very interesting development that has just happened.
As AI technology advances, we're seeing the worlds of photography and AI come together in new ways. Here are a few examples of how this is and might play out:
AI can assist with image editing and processing, making it quicker and more accurate to edit photos (Photoshop already has this in the neural filters section).
AI can also help photographers build concepts for photoshoots and provide graphical elements for images.
In the near future, AI-powered cameras can even enhance the shooting experience by adjusting settings in real-time and predicting the perfect shot (this is creeping into mobile photography).
While these changes might feel daunting at first, it's important to recognise that this has already happened, is here and is not going away, so my recommendation is to see it as a technological shift that is not going to be stopped.
We also have to be patient as this is quite a shock for a lot of people who make their livelihood from art and photography, it takes time for people to absorb and then adapt to change, especially when it is as revolutionary as this.
I see it as a complimentary tool that does not replace the photographer, but gives a broader range of editing and compositional options and speeds up the process.
I think the biggest downside is that it will affect some industries and that has to be recognised, but those that embrace it will be able to re-apply the skills they have learned to this new technology.
You can definitely tell the difference between the casual AI artist and the artist that has been trained in composition and observation of light...
Photographer and AI artist may well become a new category of professional…
